Good evening from Tokyo! We just won the New Face Award at this year's Japan Media Arts Festival (JMAF) in Tokyo with our augmented projection sculpture Radix. This is the festival's 20th edition, and 4,034 works from 88 countries and regions were entered (festival archive).
RADIX started with a wooden root. We 3D-scanned it, extended it with 3D-printed polygon elements and augmented the whole object with projection and sound, "part organism, part apparatus". It first appeared in March 2016 at the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt, produced for the Luminale Lighting Biennale, and was shortlisted for the Lumen Prize in London that September. Xenorama made it together: Lorenz Potthast, Marcel Bückner, Moritz Richartz, Richard Oeckel and Tim Heinze.

We are now looking forward to the opening ceremony and the exhibition at the New National Theatre Tokyo, an opera tower in the middle of the Shinjuku district. It runs from Friday, 14th September, alongside a lot of other media art.
