Gasworks, power station, district heating plant, and since 2016 a house for digital art: in October 2021 the Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig hosted Bright Festival Connect, and XENORAMA brought a 360° installation.

Built in 1863 to supply gas to the districts of Lindenau and Plagwitz, the building was converted in 1900 to generate electricity for Leipzig's new electric trams, with five brown-coal steam engines. From 1964 it belonged to VEB Energiekombinat Leipzig and delivered heat until it was shut down in 1992. It stood unused for two decades before reopening as a centre for immersive art (Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig).
