INTRO
For the Open Space Project 2022, we developed an audio-reactive light installation that accompanied the diverse stage programme on the Domshof in Bremen from June to September 2022 and visualised the sounds on the stage.
The cosy atmosphere on the Domshof Bremen and the distinctive vertical elements of the stage design by Wirth Architekten were complemented with over 70 metres of pixel-precisely controllable LEDs. The plants, which were part of the stage design, and the surrounding urban gardening ensemble were included in the media design as well. For select events a temporary LED wall was added, with VJ content made for each occasion.

THE SQUARE
The Domshof is more than a thousand years old. It could only develop as a square after the wall around the cathedral precinct was torn down in 1043. In 1922 it took over the city's weekly market, which the Nazi administration moved back to the Marktplatz in 1939, and in 1940–41 an air-raid bunker for 2,500 people was built beneath it. A year before this edition, Xenorama had already built OPEN SPACE DOMSHOF on the same square. More on this edition on Xenorama's project page.
The programme changed almost daily: concerts, performances, readings, cooking events and DJ nights on a two-sided stage, attended by more than 15,000 people over the season. Because the light was driven by the sound, it took on the pace of whoever was on stage, from a reading to a DJ set. The project was commissioned by the Bremen Senate for Economics, Labour and Europe, with JOKMOK & LITE LIFE coordinating the events.
