INTRO
In the summer of 2021, after months of pandemic closures, the University of the Arts Bremen brought culture back to the city centre: OPEN SPACE, a temporary venue on the Domshof in Bremen.
Wirth=Architekten designed a three-storey scaffolding structure that held a stage, an auditorium, a gallery, a forum and a rooftop bar. Commissioned by the university, XENORAMA developed the media concept, the lighting concept and the scenography, with animations, visuals, music and LED supervision. Around 100 m of addressable LED strips, more than 50 luminaires and three permanent projection surfaces turned the scaffolding into a light sculpture (Xenorama).

GOLD AND SILVER NAILS
In May 2022 the Art Directors Club Germany (ADC) gave the project a golden and a silver Nagel, the club's nail-shaped trophy (idw, Senate of Bremen). OPEN SPACE became a recurring summer project of the university, with a new edition opening on the Domshof in June 2026 (HfK Bremen).
From 26 June to 12 September, 13 weeks in all, the structure hosted 85 concerts and 13 exhibitions. Around 300 students of HfK Bremen built and ran the programme and showed their work in three exhibition spaces of about 120 m² together. Around 40,000 people came.
