On German-Slovakian Day (Slovensko-Nemecký Deň), 10 September 2018, the German Embassy in Bratislava marked 25 years of friendship between the two countries. The celebrations ended on the embassy's own façade, with the projection Čo Nás Spája (“What Unites Us”).
The evening took place on Hviezdoslavovo námestie, in the heart of the Slovak capital's Old Town, and also closed the city's Cultural Summer. Admission was free. The Pressburger Klezmer Band opened at 16:00 with Jewish and Slovak songs, Quadro Nuevo followed at 18:00, and at 20:00 the imposing embassy building took over.
Key challenges
Staging the façade of a working embassy
Four chapters of shared history
Closing an open-air evening after two concerts
Xenorama staged the façade as a classical architectural mapping. Looking back at what the two countries share, it undertook an aesthetic journey through geographical relationships along the Danube, shared roots in Habán faience, the period of political change and the fall of the Berlin Wall, and arrived at the present friendship.
