INTRO
CONSTRUCT at the NYIT-NUPT Film Festival and Symposium in Nanjing, China, April 2012.
The festival was hosted on 21 and 22 April 2012 by the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) Center for Humanities and Culture at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NUPT). A competition for international student and amateur short narrative and animation films was accompanied by a film symposium with scholarly presentations and panel discussions by directors, producers and academics (call for papers).

A film festival joined to a symposium
The 2012 edition stood under the theme “Longing and Inhibition in Film”: how people ignore, hide or repress their longings, or try to change or transcend them. CONSTRUCT, a generative, audio-reactive animation, began as photos and vector graphics animated in Flash, with After Effects analysing the audio to drive the effects; the full process is described on the CONSTRUCT page for the Breminale, where the same work was shown in 2011.
